1.6" EMD GP38 Locomotive With 3D Printed Details
Designed with precision and affordability in mind, the 1.6" EMD GP38 Locomotive from JT Engineering provides an authentic, and fun large model-building experience. Its easy construction with tab and slot assembly and robust 12 gauge steel structure ensures durability and ease of assembly, suitable for enthusiasts of all skill levels. While not necessary, the included 3D printed detail files add amazing detail for a fraction of the cost making this locomotive a standout piece at the club track or in your backyard. Embrace the perfect blend of simplicity and intricate detailing with this exceptional model. (The 3D printed detail parts included in the files are colored black in the photos above).
Don't have a 3D printer or want 3D printed detail parts? Check out my GP38/GP40 that come without the 3D print files and provide a nice blank slate for you to detail your model to your liking! I understand not everyone owns a 3D printer or wants to 3D print detail parts, so the blank model was designed for this in mind. The standard locomotive removes all detail mounting holes and recesses from the model allowing you to add detail parts how you want.
Want to add lighting to your model? I've got you covered. All lights are designed to accept LED housings and 1W led bulbs. Lighting options include Healight, Backup light, optional backlit number boards, class lights, and a nose headlight as seen on the Rio Grande.
Included with your purchase you will recieve all your files needed to get started on your locomotive as well as a few guides to help walk you through the process. The files include all laser cut files for the sheet metal, all the STL files for 3D printing, and laser cut acrylic files for the windows if you wish to give it that extra touch of realizm.
Since every locomotive is different, the GP38 files come with multiple configurations and mixes to choose from. Included are three different dynamic brake sections. With dynamic brakes Dash 2, with dynamic brakes Dash 3 and without dynamic brakes. There are files with and without class lights, with and without the lower nose headlight as seen on the Rio Grande GP38s and more. I am confident with the files included, you can pick and choose exactly what features you would like and come up with a clean prototype. Included in the 3D printed parts is a blank number board so you can create a decal or sticker to match the locomotive number you wish to model. Custom 3D printed backlit number boards will be available for order soon if you wish to have that feature. So check this website or sign up for the newsletter if you wish to get your specific number board custom designed.
This locomotive is designed so the entire body can lift off the frame for servicing. Access can also be provided via removing the upper radiator plare, the dynamic section and cab top as shown in the photo above. Precision Steel Car parts are also used in this build. Latches, grab irons and stanchions may be purchased from PSC if you wish to use those instead.
