Backyard Grade Crossing Gate
What's a backyard railroad without the fun of a crossing gate? This gate is roughly 1:4 scale of a real crossing gate. While 1/8th scale gates are fun, I designed these gates with driveways in mind, since that is typically where our backyard tracks simulate a road crossing.
One gate will cover a "1 car driveway" While two adjacent gates would cover a "2 car driveway". The gate arm is made from aluminum for reduced weight, while the rest of the gate is made from mild steel. These gates were designed to be "modular". You can have one or two crossbucks, one or two set of flashing lights, and move your control box to whatever height you wish so you can build these gates to whatever needs you have.
Included in the files you will receive all the laser cut files needed to cut your project, all the .STL files for 3D printing your details if you wish, and a wiring diagram and code prepared for an Arduino to actuate your gates and lights. With the hardware and software figured out, you can build a functioning grade crossing on your layout without all the guesswork!
Pole Length: Designed at 6' 4", but can be as long as you wish
Gate Length: Aluminum Rectangular tube 8-10' per builder specification. Could potentially be longer with proper counterweights
